File
and Web Space - Lab Access
In
addition to computer access, C.M.S. lab accounts provide 150
MB
of disk space that can be used for file storage and/or web space. Note
that this is distinct from web space for faculty, courses and units
provided
on the Faculty server.
Accessing Space
Both spaces are accessible
from all C.M.S. computers through normal file management systems.
On MS Windows computers, files can be saved on the U: (File-Space
on
‘lab’) and/or V: (Web-Space on ‘lab’) Drives.
On Mac OS X computers, files can be saved on the File Space and
Web Space drives.
On Linux computers, save to the File Space or Web Space directories
found in the home directories (and showing on the desktop).
The File Space area is intended for file storage.
The Web Space area is intended for user web space. These
files can be accessed by anyone connected to the Internet using the URL
web.educ.ubc.ca/userid/filename.html where:
- userid is your C.M.S. lab account username
- filename.html is the name of the file saved on the Drive.
Please remember that standard web naming conventions apply (no spaces,
case matters, etc.)
- if you save a file named index.html, it
can be accessed directly with the URL web.educ.ubc.ca/userid/
