Network Access
In-classroom connections to the UBCNet
campus network can be made in either of two ways .
- Most class/seminar rooms in Scarfe and
the Ponderosas (E,F,G, H) are wired with Internet
Access Ports (IAP). (For more information and locations of IAPs in
other buildings, see www.it.ubc.ca/internet/iap.html)
-
Wireless connectivity is available in the Ponderosas (E,F,G,H) and
the Scarfe building. See cms.educ.ubc.ca/network/wireless.html
or www.wireless.ubc.ca.
Using IAPs / Wireless
To be able to use one of these connection
types you need:
- a computer with an appropriate network adapter (wired/802.11a/g
wireless) configured for DHCP
- an Interchange, Netinfo or Campus Wide Login (CWL ) account.
To use the connection:
- If using an IAP, connect your computer to the appropriate
network plug. All IAPs (in networked classrooms in Scarfe and Ponderosa
E, F, G, H) are marked with the yellow sticker

- Turn your computer on
- If using a wireless connection, connect to
the ubc network (or use the more secure ubcsecure network).
- Start up a web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc) and
go to a site
- You will be taken to a login page where you can use your Campus
Wide Login (CWL) account to enable your port.
- Use network applications as you wish.
