Uploading Web Sites/Pages

To upload pages to either the Faculty or CMS/Lab web servers use ftp (file transfer protocol).

There are a number of ftp programs that can be used, some web page editing applications (such as Macromedia Dreamweaver and Nvu) have built in ftp support and some versions of Microsoft Windows Internet Explorer for Windows can use a URL of the form ftp://username@hostname to update sites.

You need the following information to ftp your files:

  • your account username
  • the server/host name
    • Faculty server (faculty, courses, units, research) - ftp.educ.ubc.ca
    • CMS Server (students) - web.educ.ubc.ca
  • a computer with update access
