FTP Programs

FTP (file transfer protocol) programs can be used to upload files to the Faculty servers.

There are a number of ftp applications available. For example:

In some versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer for Windows, you can use a URL of the form ftp://userid@hostname/ .
You can then copy, paste, drag and delete in the Internet Explorer Window.

  • for the Faculty server use ftp://userid@ftp.educ.ubc.ca/
  • for the CMS Lab server (My/Web Space) use ftp://userid@web.educ.ubc.ca/
    • you will see two directories corresponding to My and Web Space

In addition, Microsoft Windows and UNIX variants such as Linux and MacOS X have a basic command-line ftp. See their on-line help for more information on using these programs.
